ReplyDeletei mean, this would be more then horrible nice if we could jailbreak the iPhone at the 6.1 release day^^
Pay attention and do some research before you want to be spoonfed
Deleteupdated iTunes to most recent version and I received a message saying that the firmware was not compatible. I'm sure I chose the right one. Any suggestions?
ReplyDeleteYou have to put your device into DFU Mode (Hold sleep button and home for 10 seconds, then release sleep, but keep holding home for 30 seconds) then try to restore. If it still doesn't work, make sure you downloaded the IPSW for your specific iDevice, and if you did, just re-download it. Hope it helped :)

DeleteWhat if you have updated from a desktop to 6.1 without this link? will it matter at all?
ReplyDeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
DeleteYou have to update from an IPSW, you can't update normally from itunes
DeleteCan't we updated using OTA update?
ReplyDeleteMy bad. Didn't read the tweet. :D
Deletecan i update manually from itunes ?
ReplyDeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
DeleteNo, update from the ipsw
DeleteiTunes 11.0.1 too is good for upgrade to 6.1? or only iTunes 11????
ReplyDeleteSame thing, they meant iTunes 11.x.x
Deletei have a iphone 5 a1428 and i download gsm for iphone 5 and say :"firmware was not compatible." D:!
ReplyDeleteDownload 6.1 (iPhone 5 GSM – model A1428, AT&T/Canada): iPhone5,1_6.1_10B143_Restore.ipsw
Delete6.1 (iPhone 5 CDMA – model A1429, all others): iPhone5,2_6.1_10B143_Restore.ipsw
As in this site If you are downloading for GSM one its actually CDMA version ipsw...which is why it is showing you not compatible
And CDMA is GSM...little error..
so your saying if i dont do the ios 6.1 restore i wont be able to get an untethered jailbreak
ReplyDeletealso says firmware not compatible for i5
ReplyDeleteThey put wrong download link for iPhone 5, GSM should be IPhone5,1 / CDMA should be iPhone5,2
DeleteWhen you use the mouse to point the link, you will see what I am talking about.
Same here...
ReplyDeletewhat is the difference between GSM and CDMA??
ReplyDeletei can not restore my iphone 3GS with ios 6.1, it's stopping at 1/4 progress
ReplyDeleteRe-download the firmware and if that doesn't work re-install iTunes
DeleteDoes it matter if i Update it in iTunes then restore from iCloud backup? will this work?
ReplyDeleteI wonder if it would be better to jailbreak first, save blobs, then update.
ReplyDeletebut will the jailbreak be out for 6.0.x or just 6.1
Deletehmm. i updated OTA before i read this. am i in trouble?
ReplyDeleteI'm in the same condition...what I must do now...out of game???...
Delete:(
No, just do a full iTunes Restore from the ipsw
DeleteI am skipping this update. Staying with 5.1 until I can afford a used second iphone 4 to use with 6.1
ReplyDeleteGuys if you are looking for a solution to "Firmware not Compatible" You need to download the other firmware. Basically what happens is you choose the wrong firmware for your phone. So If you downloaded a GSM Firmware and you get the error, download the CDMA Firmware and it should work. Or if you have an iPad choose the wifi version if it still doesn't work (It should be obvious if you have a wifi or cellular iPad) Also you should not use the OTA feature as stated by @pimskeks as it may ruin your chances of jailbreaking on Sunday. Good luck guys!
ReplyDeleteI have ipad4, I tried with gsm and with cdma, but I have an error in all case. Should I install wifi 6.1? Isn't it strange to install wifi update on a cellular device???
DeleteWhen I try to install cdma The error is 3149. Do I have to edit my host file?
DeleteNo just put your device into DFU before doing the update
Deleteguys if you have already updated OTA, like me - due to excitement.
ReplyDeleteJust download relevant ipsw from this post, update itunes and connect iphone to itunes, press ctrl(win) or option(mac) and click restore iphone in itunes.
follow instructions to setup.
Hope that this solution works on jailbreak...
Delete@HeAdrush...I have tried that method but after extracting the software, after verifying software with apple it is showing me this error "The iphone could not be restored. An Unknown error occured(3194)"My phone is AT&T Factory unlocked device only .Firmwire which i have downloaded is iPhone5,1_6.1_10B143_Restore.ipsw
DeleteWaiting for your reply
okay so for the positive outlook from confusion, you HAVE to update to 6.1 through this method for the jailbreak because the JB will be for 6.1!
ReplyDeleteYes, but what is the difference between gsm e cdma??? I have an ipad4 wifi+cellular, so what I have to download?
ReplyDeletegsm is att ..cdma is verizon, make sure you look for the right down load or it will no update on the ipad/iphone.
Deletecdma is used in US by AT&T and verizon i think, but everywhere else its GSM, im in UK and its defo GSM.
ReplyDelete"cdma is used in US by AT&T and verizon i think, but everywhere else its GSM, im in UK and its defo GSM."
DeleteNot correct. CDMA is not used by AT&T. When in doubt, simply Google your question. The first result provides all the answers: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_United_States_wireless_communications_service_providers
Ok, thank you, but now I'm reading on the box of my ipad4 there is the support to cdma. So is this not relevant, or do I have to download the 6.1 for cdma?
ReplyDeleteif you not in US, and not on particular network.... don't worry about it, its defo GSM - most used international...
ReplyDeleteif your not sure, enquire for the blessing of... < GOOGLE >
Jailbreak update question: Will I lost all of my app data when i update to 6.1? I have a lot of cracked apps with saved games and I don't want to lose it.
ReplyDeleteWith ITunes, there is a function transfer purchases. It can back up all the apps to iTunes
DeleteAnd then back up your iPhone by iTunes, restore iPhone to 6.1 (not update button), it will flash a clean 6.1 then restore your last back up by iTunes.
Ok, I searched to google, and I saw that you are right, but I was in doubt. Ok, I'll download gsm version.
ReplyDeleteDownloaded the Iphone5 GSM 6.1 file ... where the heck is the ISPW FILE?!?! shift-Click the restore and it finds no ISPW file in the unzipped files from the download ... HELP!
ReplyDeleteSame thing with me. did you ever get it to work?
DeleteWindows some time made the file extension to zip file, not ipsw
DeleteYou try to find the method, Unhidden file extension and then you can change to .ipsw instead of .zip
Step 1: Got to control panel and look for folder options
DeleteStep 2: In folder options go to the view tab. Scroll down and look for "hide extensions from known files" uncheck it click apply
Step 3: Go to the zip file you downloaded and click rename. DONT OPEN THE ZIP FILE JUST CLICK RENAME
Step 4: Change '.zip' to '.ipsw' click enter and when the "are you sure you want to change this file' box pops out click yes
Step 5: voila you have an ipsw file to use to jail break your device
Check on your phone the model number

ReplyDelete6.1.0 (5 GSM): iPhone5,1_6.1_10B143_Restore.ipsw
ReplyDelete6.1.0 (5 GSM+CDMA): iPhone5,2_6.1_10B143_Restore.ipsw
iPhone 5 GSM, verified Model A1428, downloaded "iPhone5,1_6.1_10B143_Restore.ipsw", iTunes 11.01, Placed iPhone in DFU, Alt-Restore, selected ipsw, Wrong Firmware error! For giggles, I tried this with the CDMA ipsw and received the same error.

ReplyDeleteI was so eager about this that I started an upgrade on my iPhone 4s from a jailbroken 5.0.1 OTA to 6.1. Next time I took a look at my phone the screen was just black. I waited for a while, and finally I decided to see what happens if I try turning it on. It started and asked me to sync with iTunes. Since then I have tried soooo many methods prescribed, but nothing works. ITunes just keeps telling me than an unknown error occured, ranging from error 1, error 25, to error 1600 and more. Does anyone know how I could fix this? I dont even care about the data on the phone, I just want it working again on 6.1 so that I can JB it as soon as the JB is released! (its status is 101% on the evad3rs website)
ReplyDeleteHi! I want to update my iPouch Touch 5 to ios 6.1 or 6.1.2. However, iOS 6.1.3 was released today and I don't want to update to that since I am planning on JB. Whenever I press Shift+Update or Shift+Restore, I am getting Error 3194. I already chech the host file and gs.apple line is already commented. What should I do to make this work? BTW, I am running on 6.0.1. Thanks!
