Though China’s tourism industry is growing fast along with the country’s rapid economic growth, some ill-behaved tourists may present a challenge to the protection and maintenance of popular tourist sites. Some have damaged the sites by writing phrases or their names on cultural relics. A photo posted on Chinese social network has gone viral on the China internet.

The photo shows an ancient relief inside Luxor Temple in Egypt on which a China visitor has scrawled “Ding Jinhao was here.” (Written in Chinese characters) The photo has prompted widespread criticism and many netizens said they want to find out who the vandals is. The Luxor Temple receives visitors from every location every day. The authorities over there can’t guarantee the morality of each visitor. To deface a relic which has more than 3500 years of history is wholly despicable. The uncivilized behavior of some Chinese tourists are really harming China’s image abroad.

The parents apologized to the public after their son’s identity is determined through online “human flesh search“. Ding Jinhao’s personal information has been exposed on Chinese internet and even his primary school’s website has being hacked. Ding’s parents contacted local media, apologizing for their son, admitting that they hadn’t properly educated their child and pleaded for society to give him a chance. The photo, which was posted last Friday, has been retweet more than 90,000 times on Chinese social media and triggered public outrage.
